Outside of a Rivian storeBLOOMINGTON – State Senator Dave Koehler is pleased by the rapid expansion of Rivian’s Manufacturing plant in Bloomington Normal. The additions to the manufactures plant bring with it more economic and job opportunities for our community while bolstering our states electric vehicle ecosystem.

“Rivian’s continued growth in Normal is a testament to what can happen when state, local, and private partners collaborate with a unified vision for the future,” said Koehler (D-Peoria). “The expansion of the plant, the development of the supplier park, and infrastructure investments all culminate in job creation, safety improvements, and a stronger position for Illinois as a leader in advanced manufacturing and clean energy alternatives. It’s exciting to see these investments paying off for workers and everyone involved.”

Rivian’s continued expansion in Normal is creating new jobs, driving supplier growth and supporting workforce investments, a sign that Central Illinois is strengthening its role in advanced manufacturing and the electric vehicle industry. Rivian recently rolled out the first R2 vehicle from its Normal facility, and the company’s adjacent supplier park is now operating alongside the plant to support both R1 and R2 production.

Koehler also pointed to workforce development efforts tied to Rivian’s growth. The company is rapidly hiring to support production of the R2 midsize SUV, and when fully scaled, the Normal plant will be capable of producing 155,000 R2 vehicles per year. The supplier park has also attracted additional automotive suppliers, and once fully built out, it is expected to create hundreds of new jobs in the region.

“Our state’s investments are paying off for our communities’ and pushes us to a greener, less gas reliant future,” Koehler said “I am excited to see this momentum continue.”
